The last three days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, I was in Copenhagen with my class (1y) and another class, (1x). After Christmas break, the two classes will be mixed and then separated into two different classes again. It’s all because of a huge schedule mix up. Anyways, the point of this trip was to make the classes friends and maybe the switch will al be easier. So I got on the train in Højslev at 11:13 with all these kids. We got to Copenhagen around 5:30. This was Monday night. We were all exhausted from the trip and had a little time to walk around, we got some dinner and then just went back to the hostel and crashed. Tuesday morning, we went to a lecture about some math. To be quite honest, it was just a little extra sleeping time for everyone. But really, what were they expecting when they take 40 teenagers early in the morning into a dark lecture hall and have a man with a lovely mono toned voice give a powerpoint presentation on the history of math. REALLY?
We ate lunch at the University and at this point, I was hanging out with 5 other girls from the other class. I hadn’t felt at home so much as just being with them. I relate to them and we can just laugh and have a great time and just be girls. To be honest, there isn’t anyone in my class it is so easy with. No one I can really just sit with.
Anywho, this was pursued with more lectures and a tour of the university. Then we were let loose on Copenhagen! I found a very perfect birthday present, and a cosy sweatshirt. Me and two other girls got the same sweatshirt and now we match :)
I think I’ll talk to my councilor about how the switch will work and everything. It could be a really good thing! It was so nice to be with people that just feel normal. Tuesday Night, Helene, Amanda, Pernille, Emma, Marie and I went to the Hard Rock Cafe and I had the first real burger here! It was the most amazing thing. Y’all in US, take advantage of those babies. We talked about boys and shoes and life and I can’t even tell you how great it felt just to be normal. Not a night of fake smiles and trying to pretend I understand what people are saying. We laughed at my horrible danish and I dared them all to eat their burgers with their hands. (Danish people eat everything with their fork and knife, Q: How do you starve a European? A: Take away their fork and knife!) But they did it and they brought us those little wet towelettes for our hands.
After an amazing dinner, Helene, Emma and I went literally next door to Tivoli, the famous Danish amusement park! They had just put up their Christmas decoration and it was breathtaking. White lights everywhere, and trees and beautiful lanterns and big willows over a lake, covered in white lights. We walked around and took pictures and talked with a very crazy Santa in his sleigh. It was a wonderful night!
Wednesday was mostly travel and now I am back home thursday morning for school! In Social Sciences, where we are learning about the Danish government. This teacher in particular is very stead-fast on my learning in her class. The class just got an assignment. Confused I go up to her, and refusing to speak english, she explains with much torture on my part, we all have to memorize the Grundloven, Basically the Danish Constitution. It has 88 points. And they’re each roughly a paragraph. I am not excused. There goes my weekend!
